The History of 3rd Hove (St Leonard's) Scout Group

On February 28th 1928 the 11th Hove Scout Group was registered with the Scout Headquaters.
The Scout Master was The Rev. H.T. Mogridge, by September of the same year 24 scouts had joined the group.
Towards the end of 1928 the Cub Pack was attached to the group also known as the 11th Hove. Interest grew and by the end of 1929 the numbers for the cub pack had risen to 20.
In 1930 Mr Sibley became Scout Master and Miss Bullen was made Akela.
In January 1936 it was officially announced that the Hove and Shoreham-by-Sea District was to split up into two seperate Local Associations.
After the split it was decided that the groups were to be re-numbered, this is when we got our name as the 3rd Hove (St Leonard's) Scout Group.
On the 10th July 1937 the new Headquaters was officially opened by Brig.Gen. Godfrey Faussett. (This is the building that we still meet in today some 69 years later)
Our Head Quarters is also availale for hire.

Parent information
We are a thriving Group offering Scouting activities for boys and girls aged 6-14 in our Beaver, Cub and Scout sections.
Parental Support
To ensure sufficient supervision of activities, parents of members may be asked to help at least one Pack / Colony / Troop meeting each term. If this is impossible for either parent of a Scout, other help is needed in many areas and your support is essential. The weight of responsibility should not fall on the heads of a few volunteers, and your son / daughter will also benefit from a demonstration of your commitment to the Group as well as their own. If you have a preference for helping on a particular date or at a particular event please let the leader know as soon as possible.
It is hoped that in addition, parents of all Scouts will want to support their child's Scout Group. There are many ways in which this support can be given:
Transport for your child and perhaps others to venues for camps and meetings.
In prompt payment for trips and subscriptions.
By supporting the Group's fund-raising activities
By attending the Group's AGM in May
By volunteering to help on the Group's parents Committee
A great deal of work is done behind the scenes collecting subs, maintaining equipment, decorating, cooking at camps etc. If you have any time to give or would just like some more information, please contact the Leaders. All offers of help however small are gratefully received.
In total, there are currently about 120 children, invested into the 3rd Hove. We accept boys and girls in all sections.
Subscription of £27.00 will be collected at the beginning of each term. You will receive a letter from our group treasurer when this is due, this includes weekly subs and the capitation fee which we must pay to headquaters
The Group does have a Behaviour and 'Anti Bullying' Policy
which you will receive a copy of when you join the group.
We offer a wide programme in Beaver's, Cubs and Scouts.
